The fruit for this wine comes from Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, which runs from the interior mountains of St Arnaud to the coastal town of Blenheim. The wine was made in small batches using techniques that draw out the character of individual Pinot clones and vineyards. A portion was fermented in small open vats, which encouraged lighter red fruit components to be expressed. The balance was fermented in stainless steel tanks. The ferments were pumped over twice a day to extract the colour and tannins that make up the backbone of the wine. The wine was either transferred to barrels to complete fermentation in new oak, or aged in old French oak barriques before blending.
In the glass, this wine showcases the light style Pinot that Marlborough is known for: fresh, vibrant red fruit; sweet strawberries; and cherries with floral notes on the the nose and the palate. Refreshing acidity and fine tannins are met with fine base notes of barrel spice. Well balanced and easy to drink now, but with considerable length and the ability to cellar up to 10 years
